Durmitor - 150 kilomètres hors des sentiers battus

Le parc compte 25 sentiers de randonnée en montagne balisés, de différentes longueurs et pour différents niveaux de condition physique. Le réseau de sentiers, d'une longueur de 150 km, mène à un monde de montagnes aux caractéristiques géomorphologiques uniques. Les montagnes aux pics aigus et déchiquetés (Zupci, Minin bogaz), les montagnes coupées verticalement (Savin kuk, Šljeme), les montagnes sellées (Sedlana greda), tordues et courbées (Uvita greda), en forme de bouclier (Štit), les montagnes aux flancs tachetés (Šareni pasovi), Les montagnes solitaires (Stožina), les montagnes aux sommets sans nom (Bezimeni vrhovi) ou aux sommets arrondis (Obla glava) ainsi que les collines venteuses (Vjetrana brda) offrent une expérience unique de lacs glaciaires, de forêts séculaires, de collines et de vallées herbeuses.

1. Black Lake Circle Hike

  • Starting Point: Black Lake Parking Area
  • Goal: Circumnavigate Black Lake
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: Minimal
  • Difficulty: Easy

This family-friendly hike lasts approximately 1.5 hours and takes you around the picturesque Black Lake. The trail is well-marked and offers beautiful views of the surrounding peaks and lush forest. Ideal for families and casual hikers, it provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy a leisurely walk in nature while soaking in the serene atmosphere of the park.


2. Four Lakes Trail

  • Starting Point: Crno Jezero (Black Lake)
  • Goal: Connect four glacial lakes

  • Difficulty: Moderate

The Four Lakes Trail is a newly established route that connects four stunning glacial lakes nestled below the peaks of Stozina, Sedlena Greda, and Ranisave. This trail is perfect for nature lovers seeking an escape from urban life. The hike is best undertaken from May to October when the trails are accessible and the lakes are at their fullest. Expect a journey through diverse landscapes, including dense forests and rocky terrains, making it a rewarding experience for outdoor enthusiasts.


3. Red Cliff with Return to Zminje Lake

  • Starting Point: Jablan Lake
  • Goal: Summit Red Cliff and return to Zminje Lake
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: Significant
  • Difficulty: Challenging

This mountainous trail requires hikers to conquer the summit of Red Cliff. The route comprises 40% forest, 10% pastures, 10% macadam, and 40% mountain trail. Along the way, two seasonal sources of drinking water can be found: one near Jablan Lake and another close to Zminje Lake. This hike is recommended for experienced hikers due to its challenging sections and elevation changes.


4. Ice Cave Trail

  • Starting Point: Ice Cave Trailhead
  • Goal: Reach the Ice Cave
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: Moderate
  • Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging

The Ice Cave Trail is one of the oldest marked trails in Durmitor, created by renowned mountaineer Branko Cerovic. The cave features stunning ice formations, including stalactites and stalagmites, which should not be touched. Caution is advised in the final ascent, where hikers must navigate a steep rock climb of about 20 meters. The trail is accessible from June to October, offering a unique experience for those interested in geology and natural wonders.


5. Circular Trek from Žabljak

  • Starting Point: Žabljak
  • Goal: Complete a circular trek through several lakes
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: 300 - 1000 meters
  • Difficulty: Moderate to Challenging

This 3-day trek covers approximately 26 km and passes by several notable landmarks, including Crno Jezero, Velika Previja, and Zminje Lake. The trail features diverse terrains and offers breathtaking views of the Durmitor massif. Hikers should be prepared for challenging sections, especially around the Samar pass. Each day presents unique landscapes and opportunities for camping, making it a fantastic choice for more serious hikers looking for an adventure.


6. Momčilov Grad to Crvena Greda Hike

  • Starting Point: Momčilov Grad Restaurant
  • Goal: Summit Crvena Greda
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: Moderate
  • Difficulty: Moderate

This family-friendly hike begins at the base of the Momčilov Grad restaurant and winds through meadows and coniferous forests. The trail offers stunning views of the Durmitor massif and its lakes, including Crno and Zminje. While the trail is generally safe, there are sections with rocky terrain near cliff edges, making it less suitable for casual hikers. The summit rewards hikers with breathtaking panoramic views.


7. Via Dinarica CG-W-02 Durmitor Mountain

  • Starting Point: Ivan Do (for loop hike) or Nedajno for one way
  • Goal: Complete a three-day hike covering 41 kilometers (one way)
  • Elevation Gain/Loss: Varies
  • Difficulty: Challenging

The Via Dinarica CG-W-02 route is a three-day hiking loop that showcases the natural beauty of Durmitor. Starting from Nedajno, hikers will traverse diverse landscapes, including forests, rocky passes, and glacial lakes. This trek is ideal for experienced hikers looking for a comprehensive exploration of the park's offerings.
