Day 1: Arrival and Initial Exploration
Morning: Arrive in Žabljak, the gateway to Durmitor National Park. Check into your accommodation, such as the Hiker’s Hostel or Casa di Pino Eco Lodge. Start your day with a visit to the Durmitor National Park Visitor Centre to gather maps and information
Afternoon: Begin with a hike to Black Lake (Crno Jezero), the most famous lake in the park. The trail around the lake is about 3.5 km and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Evening: Enjoy a traditional Montenegrin dinner in Žabljak. Try local dishes like kačamak (a potato and cheese dish) or cicvara (a cornmeal and cheese dish).
Day 2: Hiking and Adventure
Morning: Set out early for a hike to Bobotov Kuk, the highest peak in the park at 2,523 meters. Do this only if you are ready for some serious hiking. This challenging hike takes about 6-8 hours round trip but rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views
Afternoon: After descending, take a break and have lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, visit the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, an architectural marvel spanning the Tara River Canyon. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the zip line over the canyon.
Evening: Relax back in Žabljak, perhaps with a visit to a local bar or café to unwind after a day of hiking.
Day 3: Rafting and Departure
Morning: Experience the thrill of rafting on the Tara River, known as the “Tear of Europe” for its clear waters. Several local operators offer half-day rafting tours that include all necessary equipment and guides.
Afternoon: After rafting, enjoy a leisurely lunch by the river (usually included in the package). In the afternoon, take a scenic drive or a short hike to one of the park’s other lakes, such as Zminje Lake or Barno Lake.
Evening: Return to Žabljak to pack up and prepare for departure. If time allows, take a final stroll through the town or visit a local market for souvenirs to remember this amazing experience.
